After months of winter darkness when only the moon, stars and, at times, the fleeting curtains of light known as aurora australis are visible, it is a joy to welcome the return of the sun during spring months from August to October.
With the onset of the brief Antarctic summer, sunset and sunrise merge as the sun skims along the southern horizon for hours on end.
