Rani Durgavati married Dalpat Shah, son of the Gond king Sangram Shah of Garha-Katanga, thereby cementing the alliance between their two royal families. She ruled as the queen of the Gond Empire, Garh-Katanga. Recognizing her sacrifice and bravery, the Indian Postal Department also released a commemorative postage stamp on the 500th birth anniversary of Rani Durgavati to inspire the youth of the country. She displayed remarkable courage and leadership when facing the formidable Mughal Empire. Queen Durgavati chose her death rather than fall into the hands of her rivals.
