The Paraguay post office has always managed to use its stamps to make culture and the past as well as current events known to a broad public.

This was also the case with the record edition in 1965: for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which had taken place a year earlier, the postal administration of the Republic of Paraguay published a block that was surprising in three ways.

Firstly, the block contains the first gold-plated stamp on perforated paper, which corresponds to a gold embossing of a gold medal from Tokyo. Three gold medalists are depicted on coins around the stamp, including the German decathlete Will Holdorf.

The block with the first real gold embossing on a stamp was only intended for various gifts from the post office, it is numbered - and there could probably be a maximum of 9,999 pieces of it in existence.
