Sir Rowland Hill

REFORMER EXTRAORDINARY 1795 - 1879.

" Rowland Hill was born in Kidderminster on 3 December 1795. He was born into an exceptionally brilliant family which, in time, was to make its mark in the worlds of educational and prison reform, reform of the criminal law and postal reform.

Throughout his long and varied career, Rowland himself demonstrated his remarkable reforming and inventing abilities in fields as diverse as education, colonisation transport and methods of printing. All this was in addition to his great Postal Reform of 1840 for which, today, his name is chiefly remembered throughout the world."
