May 1803 saw the start of the Napoleonic War and invasion fever spread through Britain.

Nelson was appointed to the Mediterranean as Commander - in - Chief to deal with the combined threat of France and Spain.

After two years blockading and a great chase across the Atlantic to the West Indies and back, Nelson finally brought the combined fleet of France and Spain to action off Cape Trafalgar on the 21st October 1803.
