Red Sea Angelfish
The Red Sea angelfish (Arusetta asfur) is depicted on this 25-franc stamp issued on march 17, 1981, by the East African nation of Djibouti.
Djibouti is a tiny nation of less than 9,000 square miles . Yet its strategic location on the Horn of Africa gives it importance far beyond its size. It borders on the Gulf of Aden, guarding the enterance to the Red Sea that is the main water highway between the East and West.
France's last outpost in Africa, Djibouti was originally named French Somaliland. In 1967, its name was changed to the French Territory of Afars and Issas, after the two main tribes that inhabit the Island. When independence was granted a decade later, the new nation took the name of its capital city, Djibouti.
