Banknotes of all denominations are printed on special white, non- fluorescent paper. The Trident depiction is a watermark on the banknotes with face-value 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 grivnas, issued in 1992.
The watermark on the banknotes with face-value 1 (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 50 and 100-grivnas is depiction of a PORTRAIT, copying that on the banknote obverse.
Obverse
On the banknote obverse there are depicted: portraits of some outstanding persons in the history and literature of Ukraine, inscriptions "UKRAINE" or "UKRAINE"and "NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE", face value of banknotes in letters and figures and the year of issue. Ornaments and rosettes in colour printing are a complement of the design. The portraits, inscriptions and certain decorative elements are made with relief printing.
Reverse
On the banknote reverse there are depicted historical and architectural monuments of Ukraine, with the inscription "NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE" above them. The banknote face value is printed in letters and figures. Rosettes, ornaments and ribbons in colour printing are a complement of the design.
