Obverse -- Black-printed note with brown and green underprint. Guilloche pattern in left margin showing note's value (5000). Serial number appears twice in green at lower left and upper right of bordered area. Image is the head of Hans Urmiller from Barthel Beham's painting: 'Hans Urmiller mit seinem Sohn.
Reverse -- Red and brown print and ornate design over green-olive underprint. Underprint is made up of repeating hexagonal elements, each with "5000 Mark *" printed within. Anti counterfeit warning appears in the center oval. Right portion of the note, including margin-watermark area, is tinted green and has embedded, colored fibers.
Watermark -- The note includes a margin-watermark showing alternating light & dark chain links with "5000 Mark"
